DPI Releases Numbers on General School Funding

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) posted information today that supports school districts as they plan for state general school aids they will receive during the current school year. Today’s information includes certified general school aid amounts for each school district, as well as 2019-20 student enrollment numbers for independent charter schools and private schools participating in state parental choice programs. These enrollments were used to determine amounts that will be deducted or withheld from school districts’ aid payments to fund these programs.

AB-195 Reciprocity Licenses (Tranel, Travis) A license to teach based on reciprocity and granting rule-making authority. Passed, (Voice Vote). Messaged.

Florence School Board Adopts Tobacco 21 Resolution

The Board of Education of the School District of Florence County has unanimously approved a resolution (and forwarded it to their legislators) supporting raising the minimum sales for all tobacco products to 21, up from the current 18. Check it out.
As you know, the SAA supports SB 364/AB 422, which would raise the minimum sales age for all tobacco and nicotine products to 21.

SAA Testifies on Blue Ribbon Commission Bills

SAA Executive Director John Forester testified in support of all six Blue Ribbon Commission bills scheduled for a rare Senate and Assembly Education Committee joint public hearing held last Thursday, October 3rd. Both the Senate and Assembly companion bills are listed below. The SAA’s testimony is also linked below. (Testimony is identified by Senate Bill numbers only.) SAA Testifies on Lead Testing Bill
