Vos Adds Kurtz, Rodriguez to Joint Finance

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, R-Rochester, today added Reps. Tony Kurtz, R-Wonewoc, and Jessie Rodriguez, R-Oak Creek, to the Joint Finance Committee.
They fill the vacancies left by the resignation of former Co-chair John Nygren, R-Marinette, and Rep. Mike Rohrkaste, R-Neenah, not seeking reelection.
They join new Co-chair Mark Born, R-Beaver Dam; Vice-chair Amy Loudenbeck, R-Clinton; Rep. Terry Katsma, R-Oostburg; and Rep. Shannon Zimmerman, R-River Falls.
All 16 members of the committee have now been announced.
The Senate GOP team includes: Co-chair Howard Marklein, of Spring Green; Vice-chair Duey Stroebel, of Saukville; Sen. Kathy Bernier, of Lake Hallie; Sen.-elect Joan Ballweg, of Markesan; Sen.-elect Mary Felzkowski, of Irma; and Sen. Dale Kooyenga, of Brookfield.
The Senate Dem appointments are Sens. Jon Erpbenbach, Town of West Point, and La Tonya Johnson, of Milwaukee. The Assembly Dem appointments are Reps. Evan Goyke, of Milwaukee, and Greta Neubauer, of Racine.

2020-21 General School Aids

The Legislative Fiscal Bureau provided information on the calculation of general school aids and aid payments received by each school district in 2020-21. According to the memo, “The general school aids appropriation funds equalization, integration (Chapter 220), and special adjustment aids. In 2020-21, $4,903.6 million from the general fund is provided in the general school aids appropriation. Of the total amount of funding provided, 400 of the state’s 421 school districts are eligible for $4,852.7 million in equalization aid, 25 districts are eligible for $43.3 million in integration aid, and 49 districts are eligible for $7.6 million in special adjustment aid.”

Update on SAA Statutory Flexibility Agenda

As you know, on August 12, 2020, the SAA released the SAA Statutory Flexibility Agenda for the 2020-21 School Year along with a priority legislative alert on the issue. Recently, SAA members have begun asking for an “update” on what has happened to those proposals. Well, the update is now available (see link below).
You’ll see that we have taken the original flexibility agenda and added a paragraph of narrative below each agenda item to explain how each of the items was addressed to date inside the Capitol. As you can see, eight of the nine agenda items was included in one or more policy proposals.
If you have any questions about this update, please let me know. As always, but especially now, thank you for all your efforts on behalf of the children you serve. Hang in there, friends.

2021-23 SAA Legislative Agenda

After a lengthy process of seeking member input and vetting policy proposals, the SAA Board of Directors adopted the 2021-2023 SAA Legislative Agenda this morning. The process utilized was designed to achieve a legislative agenda representative of our diverse, statewide membership. I want to thank the members of the SAA Legislative Committee for their significant contributions to the agenda. Hats off as well to all SAA members who participated in this process with their comments, questions and suggestions.
