Panel Testimony From Yesterday

SAA members have been asking to see the testimony from the 4 superintendents who were on the panel that spoke in opposition to SB 619 at the public hearing yesterday.
The panel was represented by Superintendent Kris Gilmore (D. C. Everest), Superintendent Aaron Sadoff (North Fond du Lac), Superintendent JoAnn Sternke (Pewaukee) and Superintendent Jennifer Cheatham (Madison). Please see their testimony below.
To all that attended the events yesterday to testify, to support their colleagues, and to register their opposition to SB 619, I again say, “Great job!” and “Thank you!”

Standing Tall in Opposition to SB 619

People inside the Capitol are calling it “historic” and “unprecedented”. What are they talking about? Well over 100 school administrators and board members descended on the State Capitol yesterday for an extremely successful SAA-sponsored press conference and to stand in support of Superintendents Kris Gilmore (D. C. Everest), Aaron Sadoff (North Fond du Lac), JoAnn Sternke (Pewaukee) and Jennifer Cheatham (Madison) as they delivered outstanding testimony in opposition to Senate Bill 619. Many SAA members followed this initial panel of speakers to deliver their own testimony at the public hearing on SB 619.
We set out to put together the most impressive display of united school leaders that the Senate Committee on Education had ever seen in the Capitol. We did that and then some. To all that attended the events yesterday to testify, to support their colleagues, and to register their opposition to SB 619, I say, “Great job!” and “Thank you!”
We will be posting a steady stream of information about the events that transpired yesterday in the Capitol. For now, we will lead with the newspaper coverage.

See You In Madison Tomorrow

I want to thank the dozens of SAA members that plan to come to the State Capitol tomorrow in opposition to Senate Bill 619. Whether you are planning to attend the press conference at 9:30 a.m., testify at the public hearing or support your colleagues’ testimony and register in opposition to the bill, you are making a valuable contribution to this effort and I thank you.
For those of you that are still considering coming to Madison tomorrow, I encourage you to do so and lend your presence and your voice to this important effort. Once again, the press conference will be held in the Assembly Parlor, 2nd Floor West, State Capitol, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The public hearing will be held in Room 411 South, State Capitol beginning at 10:00 a.m.
If you wish to testify at the hearing you must fill out a registration slip. The SAA can help facilitate your registration. Please be aware, this will be a long hearing. Its possible you may have to wait several hours to testify. If you will attend but not testify, make sure you fill out a registration slip in opposition to SB 619.
We also think it is important to have your testimony posted as a press release on political news sites like The Wheeler Report or WisPolitics. You can send your testimony to them directly tomorrow at wheeler@thewheelerreport.com or staff@wispolitics.com. You can also send it to the SAA at beth@wsaa.org and we will send it for you.

As I’ve mentioned before, this will be our last opportunity to influence the outcome of this session’s policymaking on the Common Core State Standards. Let’s make it count.

SAA to Sponsor Capitol Press Conference on SB 619

Education leaders from across Wisconsin will gather for a media event at 9:30 a.m. Thursday related to the Senate Bill 619. The press conference, sponsored by the School Administrators Alliance, will be held in the Assembly Parlor of the State Capitol in Madison.
Please note the time of the press conference was changed to 9:30 a.m. to accommodate Madison-area media.
