Sen. Cullen to Retire at End of Current Term

Sen. Tim Cullen (D-Janesville) announced today that he plans to retire at the end of his current term. He would have been up for re-election next year.

District to Host Education Forum Sept. 5

Wisconsin State Senators Kathleen Vinehout, D-Alma, and Dale Schultz, R-Richland Center, are among the handful of presenters who will participate in “How Many Kids Left Behind? – An Interactive Community Conversation on the Future of Our Public Schools” at the Middleton Performing Arts Center, 2100 Bristol St., on Thursday, Sept. 5.
The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District is hosting the event.
The forum is free and open to the public and the media. It begins at 7 p.m. and is expected to last 90 minutes.

Plain Talk: Wisconsin’s School Vouchers Are A Scam

From the Madison Capital Times . . .
The recent news release from the State Department of Public Instruction revealing that 67 percent of the applicants to the Walker administration’s expanded school voucher program are already attending private schools elicited cries of “scam” from many quarters.
And well it should have.
That two-thirds of the voucher applicants had their children already enrolled in private schools lays waste the argument by Wisconsin legislative Republicans and the governor that vouchers are needed so poor families can rescue their children from poorly performing public schools.
