USDOE, DOJ Rescind Previous Guidance on Transgender Students

The Strang Patteson Law Firm has recently published this Legal Update that discusses the Departments of Education and Justice letter rescinding its previous guidance under Title IX concerning transgender students. The “Dear Colleague” letter was released on Wednesday, February 22, 2017.
The SAA regularly receives these legal updates and we believe this is valuable information for SAA members. We are distributing this update to SAA members with the permission of Strang Patteson.

Kremer Likely To Re-introduce Transgender Bathroom

Republican state Rep. Jesse Kremer says he likely will re-introduce a bill to force public school students to use bathrooms that correspond with their birth gender. This is consistent with previous announcements from Rep. Kremer. Check out the AP Wire Service story here.

Trump Administration Lifts Transgender Student Bathroom Guidance

The Trump administration on Wednesday ended federal protection for transgender students that allowed them to use public school bathrooms and locker rooms matching their gender identities.
The SAA has contacted its law firm partners. Legal analysis from one or more firms should be available today or tomorrow. We will forward that analysis as soon as it is available.
