JFC Appointments; Pension Study and More

Vos, Fitzgerald Make JFC Appointments
Assembly Speaker-elect Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader-elect Scott Fitzgerald last Friday announced their final appointments to the Joint Finance Committee. Vos, R-Rochester, added new members John Klenke of Green Bay, Dale Kooyenga of Brookfield and Dean Knudson of Hudson. They join returning member Dan LeMahieu of Cascade. Vos previously announced John Nygren of Marinette will serve as co-chair with Pat Strachota of West Bend as vice chair. Fitzgerald announced Glenn Grothman of West Bend, Sheila Harsdorf of River Falls, Joe Leibham of Sheboygan, Mary Lazich of New Berlin and Luther Olsen of Ripon will serve on the committee. Fitzgerald previously announced Alberta Darling, R-River Hills, will serve as co-chair.
Morningstar: Wisconsin Has Nation’s Strongest Pension System
Last week, investment research firm Morningstar Inc, published a study which concluded that 21 state pension systems are not fiscally sound. The study also lauded Wisconsin — with a 99.8 percent funded ratio for its system — as the nation’s strongest. See News Coverage
Fitzgerald Makes Senate GOP Committee Appointments
Last Friday, Senate Majority Leader-elect Scott Fitzgerald made Senate GOP standing committee appointments. Of particular importance to the SAA are the following appointments to the Senate Education Committee: Sen. Luther Olsen, Chair; Sen. Paul Farrow; Sen. Alberta Darling; Sen. Leah Vukmir; and Sen. Rick Gudex.
